❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to apply for college places?

You don’t apply directly to the pathway you choose. Instead state the preferred college or pathway in their EHCP at the relevant review (often Year 11 or Year 14). The Local Authority will then contact providers to check availability. If a separate application is needed, you’ll be informed.

How long can students stay at college or Post-16 provision?

Most college courses provisions support students for up to three years, with annual reviews to check progress and suitability. Baskerville's KS5 provision is three years going up to Year 14.

What if my child is not accepted by a college?

If a college feels it can’t meet your child’s needs, they will inform the Local Authority, who will look for alternative options. If no suitable education placements are available, social care services may become involved.

Will I be guaranteed a place at my preferred college or provision?

Preferences on the EHCP are considered, but the Local Authority makes the final decision based on what provision best meets your child’s needs and is fundable.

Will transport be provided after Year 11 or after age 19?

Transport isn’t automatically provided. All transport inquiries and applications must be done through the local authority on the Travel Assist service website.

Will college have the same hours as school?

Course hours vary by provider and course, typically ranging from three to five days a week. Times and days differ, so it’s best to check with the college.

What do I want to do if I want my child to stay at Baskerville’s Post-16 provision?

If you want your child to stay at Baskerville Post-16, state this preference at their EHCP review. Students can start or continue in Years 12 to 14. If you want your child to access our college provision at South and City Longbridge please reach out to Rachel Roe (r.roe@baskvill.bham.sch.uk) or Paul Carbery (p.carbery@baskvill.bham.sch.uk).
