Proposed Changes to School Hours Starting September 2025
I am writing to inform you about an important change we are proposing to our school day schedule beginning September 2025. After careful consideration and review of student performance data, we believe this adjustment will significantly benefit your child's educational experience and overall wellbeing.
Our Proposal for Both Baskerville and Windsor Sites:
School day will continue to begin at 9:00 am
School day will end at 3:00 pm (instead of the current 3:25 pm)
All lunch and break times will remain unchanged
Benefits of This Change:
We have observed that many of our students, particularly those with autism and attention deficit disorder, struggle to maintain focus during extended school days. Our data clearly shows a notable increase in disruptive behavior between 2:30-3:25 pm across all year groups at both sites.
By shortening the day by 25 minutes, we aim to:
Enhance your child's learning experience during their most receptive hours
Create a more positive and productive learning environment throughout the entire day
Reduce end-of-day fatigue and associated behavioral challenges
Impact on Learning Time:
Current daily learning: 5 hours 15 minutes
Proposed daily learning: 4 hours 45 minutes
Weekly reduction: 2.5 hours
Despite this modest reduction in hours, we are confident the improved engagement quality during school hours will lead to better educational outcomes overall.
Transport Considerations:
We understand this change may affect transport arrangements for some families. We are already working closely with all transportation providers to ensure smooth pick-up arrangements will be in place for all students.
Next Steps:
The proposal will undergo formal review by our Governing Body, with careful consideration given to feedback from all stakeholders including parents, staff, and students where appropriate.
These changes represent a positive step toward creating a learning environment that better addresses the specific needs of our unique student population.
